The Ensemble Joanna Musica is dedicated to the divulgation of polyphonic music composed in Portugal during the 18th-century, particularly of works that remain in manuscript and, despite their great artistic value, have not been enjoyed by modern audiences. Joanna Musica is made up of 11 excellent young singers from the advanced degrees in voice (graduate and masters students) from the Department of Music at the University of Aveiro, in the class of professor António Salgado. Its organist, Edite Rocha, received her licenciatura in organ from the University of Aveiro, her masters in organ from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (school of ancient music) in Basel, Switzerland and her Doctorate from the University of Aveiro, as an FCT scholarship recipient. Cláudia Torres, bassoon, received her licenciatura from the Piaget Institute in Viseu, and is currently pursuing her masters degree from the University of Aveiro. François Quénot received his degree in violoncello from the Conservatory of Muhlose, France, with specialization in baroque violoncello at the scuola cívica in Milan (Italy). Rui Pereira holds a degree in Contrabass from the Superior School of Music in Porto. Ensemble Joanna Musica is directed by Mário Marques Trilha, who completed his piano studies at the University of Rio de Janeiro (Uni-Rio) and received his masters degree in harpsichord performance from the Superior School in Karlsruhe, Germany.
